    ...about the Jetty Hut

    • How much did it cost?

The total cost to refurbish and equip the building was about £140,000 + VAT. Of which, £82,000 is self-funded by GCF, using revenue from the Community Car Park, and £58,000 came from other funders.

    • Who are the other funders?

The National Lottery Community Fund, Highlands and Islands Enterprise, and Highland Council.

    • Who pays the running costs?

In addition to capital funding, The National Lottery also contributed £12,200 to cover running costs in year 1, and a further £14,700 for year 2.  After that, it will be funded by GCF using car park revenue.

    • Do the community own the building?

No. The building, the jetty and the car park area is owned by Loch Shiel Jetties Trust, but we have leasehold until 2nd May, 2041.

    • Is the pontoon jetty included in the lease?

No. Ownership of the pontoon jetty, and in particular the responsibility to operate and to maintain the jetty is retained by Loch Shiel Jetties Trust.

    • Isn’t that a lot of money to spend on a building that isn’t ours?

Renovation was accepted as a condition of the lease which enabled us to negotiate a low annual rental, but yes it is a lot of money, so it’s now up to the community to extract the maximum possible benefit by using the Jetty Hut as much as possible.

    • Who did the work?

The initial strip out was done by village volunteers, and various other smaller tasks along the way have been undertaken by village volunteers, but the main contractors were Fort Builders, Coast Construction Management and The Stage Group.

    • Who can use it?

Any permanent resident (property owner or tenant) of the Glenfinnan Community Council area can request use of the Jetty Hut on a “first come” basis.

Requests can be made to any of the GCF Trustees.

    • What can it be used for?

You tell us. It’s your hall. Get creative!

All proposals will be considered by the GCF trustees and approved or declined according to fairly obvious criteria (appropriate, fair, enriching, legal etc.), but the presumption will always be to approve.

    • What will it cost?

If the proposed use will be open to all Glenfinnan area residents, then there will be no charge.

If it is for private use, the fee will be £15 / hr or £150 / day.

    • How will I know what's on?

Become a member of the GCF and add your name to the email list to receive regular notifications of upcoming events.  Membership (which is free) will also give you a say in future GCF projects and how the completed projects are run going forward.

You can also look at the live Jetty Hut calendar on this website.

    • What are the opening hours?

When the Jetty Hut is unoccupied it will be locked for security.
